Oozling Food: Jessica's Digital Story

I have wrestled with digital video making when I first used it in the eighth grade. It still proved irksome Sophomore year when I had to use it for a history project. But today, the third time around, on Windows Movie Maker, I was able to create this here movie in just under an hour. Admittedly, Windows Movie Maker is as simple as movie making can get, but I tackled the program this time around with ease and enthusiasm to write, speak, and show about a topic that I love--gardens and just food for all. Props to Jon Shade for making this a breeze!

Frolicking Cucumbers

This video was done with the help of Windows Movie Maker and Jon Shade. It is about what oue garden utopias would be like. Mine is called Frolicking Cucumbers. We recorded our voices and added our pictures. This was a really good experience and I hope you enjoy my digital story.

Oozling Food: Jessica's Digital Story

Windows Movie Maker has gotten surprisingly easier. I had wrestled with the program in the eighth grade and as a Sophomore in high school for world history class--the transitions messed up the timing, and adjusting the pictures to sound was always tricky. But at this third attempt, I found Windows Movie Maker quite fun. In just over an hour, I was able to make this coolio film about a topic I enjoy. Props to Jon, thanks a bunch! I hope you enjoy it too.

This video was created with Windows Movie Maker. It was a challenge getting used to the software, but the process was extremely fun. I really liked making this video and props to Jon for helping us create this. (:

Day Six of Programming--Digital Stories

Hello, it's Jessica writing!

Well, it's day six into the program today, July 22, and we are blazin'! The girls, over the last few days, have covered the topics of food justice, equal access to just, healthful food, America's values on food, gardening skills, and the significance of urban gardening. We've paid visits to the San Francisco Food Bank, Crissy Field coordinator and mentor Charity Maybury's home garden, have helped distribute food to the Mission community with Food Runner Nicole Brisebois, and learned at the Free Farm of San Francisco with a gracious lesson from Heidi.

Today marks the reflection day of what we've been able to learn and apply. We are now at the end of the second week and we're soon to be coordinating our own garden project, when we will raise our voices for campers and engage them in the awesomeness that is good food.

Today, we've constructed a reflection in the form of a digital story. Using what they have learned, the girls have created their own garden utopia. They've illustrated their ideal gardens and the positive impacts the gardens will impart. I feel their imagery and ideals and moods in their narratives are truly empowering, and I can't wait to see what garden project they'll create.

Take a look at our stories!

Ever sincerely,

about me

I hope to learn more about female empowerment and about how we as females are needed in the community. I fear that males are not going to accept the things that we have to say. I am looking forward to growing things and learning more about food. My favorite foods are popcorn and ice cream. I would never ever want to eat anything that jessica yap feeds me blindfolded ever again.
